
Baton Rouge, Louisiana – The Baton Rouge Police Department has made an arrest in connection with a tragic shooting that claimed the life of Marion Griffin, 27, early Sunday morning. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Fugitive Task Force, detectives took Eriq Overstreet, 27, into custody without incident. He has been booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and is facing a charge of Second Degree Murder.
The Incident
On Sunday, June 23, at approximately 2:16 a.m., officers responded to the 11000 block of Longridge Avenue following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered that an argument between two individuals had turned deadly.
During what was described as a verbal dispute, Overstreet allegedly pulled a firearm and shot Griffin. The victim was rushed to a local hospital, but despite the efforts of emergency medical staff, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Overstreet fled the scene before police arrived, prompting an intensive search and investigation. Thanks to cooperation between BRPD and federal partners, he was located and arrested within 48 hours.
