Miami, FL – With profound sadness, we share the tragic passing of Daniel McVay, a recent graduate of Somerset Academy Charter School – Chapel Trail Campus, who lost his life in a devastating car accident on June 25, 2025, in Pembroke.
Just 18 years old, Daniel’s life was filled with promise, potential, and a spirit that deeply touched those around him. His untimely death has left a community heartbroken and grieving.
Daniel had recently walked the stage as part of the Class of 2025, beaming with pride and excitement for what the future held. A young man full of dreams and ambition, he was known for his magnetic personality, infectious smile, and boundless energy.
Whether he was cheering on his classmates, helping a friend through a rough patch, or lighting up a classroom with his humor, Daniel made a lasting impression on everyone he met.
In a heartfelt message, Somerset Academy shared the following tribute:
“We are deeply saddened to share the tragic news of the passing of one of our Class of 2025 Alumni, Daniel McVay. He was involved in a vehicular accident on June 25th. Daniel was a valued and vibrant part of our community, and his loss is deeply felt by all who knew him. Our hearts go out to Daniel’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.”
Daniel’s life was a reflection of kindness, generosity, and joy. He was the kind of student who bridged gaps between peers, reached out to new students to make them feel welcome, and approached each day with a positive attitude.
Teachers described him as curious, motivated, and respectful. His classmates called him a friend to all, someone who never hesitated to stand up for others or lend a hand when it was needed most.
The accident that took Daniel’s life has sent shockwaves through the Miami and Pembroke communities. Friends, teachers, neighbors, and classmates are mourning the sudden loss of a young man taken far too soon.
The Somerset Academy Student Support Team, including Ms. Escudero and Ms. Quinones, has made counseling services available to help students and staff process the grief and offer a safe space to remember and honor Daniel.
Daniel is survived by his loving family, who were his greatest supporters. Their grief is immeasurable, but they have been uplifted by the outpouring of love and prayers from those whose lives Daniel touched. The family has asked for privacy during this painful time, while also expressing their gratitude for the heartfelt tributes and support.
Plans for a memorial service are currently underway, and details will be shared by the family and school administration in the coming days. It is expected to be a powerful celebration of Daniel’s life—a time to remember not only the tragedy of his passing, but also the brilliance and warmth he brought to the world in his short time here.
As his school so poignantly stated, “May Daniel’s memory be a source of comfort and strength to all who knew him.” Daniel McVay’s light may have been extinguished too soon, but his spirit lives on in the lives he touched.
His memory will forever be etched in the hearts of his family, friends, and the entire Somerset Academy community. Rest in peace, Daniel. You will never be forgotten.
