TOLEDO, Ohio — A shocking act of violence unfolded Wednesday morning at a South Toledo apartment complex, leaving Lawrence Moore dead and a woman fighting for her life in what police are calling an attempted murder-suicide.
According to the Toledo Police Department, 45-year-old Lawrence Moore is believed to have shot a woman—leaving her in critical condition—before taking his own life. The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. on June 25 at the Boulder Creek Apartments, located at 1255 S. Byrne Road.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. Moore was pronounced dead at the scene from what investigators confirmed was a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The woman, whose identity has not been publicly released, was transported to a local hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and authorities have not yet disclosed the relationship between Moore and the victim. Detectives continue to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and review surveillance footage from the apartment complex to better understand the events that led up to the shooting.
Residents of Boulder Creek Apartments were left shaken by the violence that erupted in their typically quiet community.
“We heard the gunshots, and then the sirens just moments later,” said one neighbor. “It’s terrifying knowing something like this happened so close to home.”
Law enforcement officials have stated that the shooting appears to be an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety. Still, the emotional impact on the neighborhood and surrounding community is palpable.
Sheriff’s officials and victim support advocates are urging anyone experiencing domestic conflict or emotional distress to seek help, reminding the public that resources are available before tragedy strikes.
As the investigation moves forward, the focus remains on the recovery of the critically injured woman and uncovering what led to this heartbreaking and violent encounter. The Toledo Police Department asks that anyone with information contact Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. All tips can be made anonymously.
This tragic case serves as another somber reminder of the importance of intervention, mental health support, and community vigilance in preventing acts of domestic violence.
