King, who passed away on June 25, 2025, after suffering a medical emergency at his home on June 13. He remained in critical condition at St. Luke’s Hospital until his death. His passing marks the loss of a dedicated public servant whose commitment to the community spanned more than two decades.
Alan King began his career in emergency services as an on-call firefighter with Dartmouth Fire District 3, serving in that capacity for 15 years before being appointed a full-time firefighter in 2016. His knowledge, skill, and devotion to the field of emergency medical services made him an invaluable member of the department. As a licensed paramedic, he was instrumental in helping the district become a licensed EMS provider in 2009—an advancement that significantly strengthened emergency response for residents.
Beyond his operational responsibilities, Alan embraced leadership roles that shaped the department’s progress. He was elected the first President of the Dartmouth Permanent Firefighters District 3 Local 5156, where he championed the interests and welfare of his fellow firefighters. In 2008, he was also elected to the district’s Prudential Committee.
During his nine years on the committee, Alan worked on several critical initiatives, including replacing outdated fire apparatus and overseeing the complete reconstruction of the district’s headquarters fire station. The modernized facility provided improved living quarters and operational space for the growing team—one of many lasting contributions he made to the community.
