His first wife, Candace Kaniecki, confirmed to TMZ that Hurst passed away unexpectedly on Thursday in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been determined.
Hurst had been scheduled to appear at Cooter’s Place in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on July 3. The popular Dukes of Hazzard museum announced Thursday morning that, due to unforeseen circumstances, Rick would not be able to attend and the event would be rescheduled.
Fans of classic television will remember Hurst’s role as the well-meaning Deputy Cletus, the cousin of Boss Hogg, which he first portrayed in the late 1970s. He continued to appear in the role throughout the 1980s as part of the beloved CBS series.
