The world lost a beautiful soul with the passing of Cody Reesman, a beloved husband, father, friend, and martial arts instructor. Originally from Warren, Ohio, and most recently residing in Savannah, Georgia, Cody passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a heartbroken community and a legacy of kindness, strength, and love.
He was known not just for his incredible skills as a trainer at Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Savannah, but for the genuine warmth and compassion he brought into every life he touched.
Cody was more than a martial artist—he was a protector, a motivator, a steady hand and an open heart for those who needed one. His passion for Jiu-Jitsu was matched only by his love for his family and friends.
He dedicated himself fully to his craft and to those around him, always pushing others to be their best—physically, mentally, and emotionally. In every roll on the mat and every moment off it, Cody led by example: with integrity, loyalty, and generosity of spirit.
Those who were fortunate enough to call Cody a friend knew just how deeply kind and sincere he was. “You were hands down one of the kindest souls I knew,” one friend shared. “If someone was lucky enough to call you a friend, then they knew the depths of what a genuine human being you were.”
He had a way of making others feel seen, respected, and uplifted, whether he was coaching on the mat, checking in on a friend, or simply sharing a laugh. But Cody’s most cherished role was that of a family man.
He was a devoted husband to his wife, Dawn Mae, and a loving father to their young son, Krew. His love for them was at the center of everything he did. Cody worked hard, not only to provide but to be present—to build memories, create joy, and instill values of strength and compassion in his son.
His family meant the world to him, and he showed that every single day. In the wake of his sudden passing, a close friend shared a moving tribute: “I’m sure everyone has heard that we lost a great one yesterday. I’m starting this to help the family with costs and put money away for Krew.
I’m still at a loss for words. My brother—I will miss you every day. I will look over and protect Krew as much as humanly possible. Until we meet again, Cody… We are all here on borrowed time.”
Those words reflect the deep bond Cody formed with the people in his life. He was more than a friend—he was a brother to many. His presence could bring peace and light even in difficult times.
He lifted others up when they needed it most, and now, in the pain of his absence, those he touched are coming together to lift up his family in return. Cody Reesman leaves behind his wife Dawn Mae, his beloved son Krew, and a community of family, students, and friends who will never forget his strength, his heart, and his unwavering spirit.
Though he is no longer with us in body, his memory will live on in every story told, every lesson passed on, and every act of kindness done in his name. Rest in peace, Cody. You were one of the great ones—on and off the mat. You are deeply missed and forever remembered.
