On July 9th, Stephanie Kearns received the heartbreaking news that no family ever wants to hear—her beloved husband, Casey, had passed away unexpectedly. In an instant, Stephanie’s world was turned upside down, and the lives of their two children, Lillian and Jack, were forever changed.
As they grapple with this tremendous loss, Stephanie is now faced with the unimaginable task of moving forward without her partner, while trying to maintain stability, comfort, and routine for her young family.
For those who know Stephanie, this tragedy hits especially hard. She is the kind of person who gives endlessly to her community, often placing the needs of others above her own.
Whether serving as an active parent at Miller and Crosby schools, advocating for change as the President & CEO of the United Way of Ulster County, or showing up time and again as a dedicated volunteer and board member for countless local initiatives, Stephanie is a true pillar of strength, compassion, and leadership in the Kingston and greater Ulster County area.
Now, during this deeply painful chapter of her life, our community has an opportunity—and a responsibility—to rally around her with that same compassion and care that she has offered so many times before. Stephanie has long been a rock for this community.
It is now our turn to be that rock for her. We have established this fund with the goal of easing some of the burdens that come in the wake of such an unexpected loss.
Donations will go directly toward helping Stephanie and her children manage essential living expenses—such as food, rent, and utility bills—during this time of mourning and transition.
A portion of the fund will also be allocated toward covering memorial and funeral costs for Casey, allowing the family to honor and remember him with dignity and love.
This is more than a financial appeal—it’s a call for community, for kindness, and for solidarity. In times of loss, it’s the simple acts of support that often carry the most meaning.
Whether you know Stephanie through school, through her professional work, through a volunteer effort, or simply as a friend or neighbor, your generosity can make a tangible difference in helping this family find their footing again.
Stephanie, Lillian, and Jack are facing a long and difficult road ahead, but they do not have to walk it alone. Every contribution—no matter the size—is a powerful gesture of love and support. Together, we can offer them strength, comfort, and the reassurance that they are surrounded by a community that cares deeply.
Let us honor Casey’s memory by showing up for his family in this time of grief. Let us surround Stephanie, Lillian, and Jack with the same unwavering support that Stephanie has given so many others. This is our moment to lift them up, just as she has lifted so many of us.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for standing with the Kearns family.
