Authorities are investigating the cause of a massive explosion that tore through a residential neighborhood, injuring five people and damaging at least 20 homes. The blast, which residents described as sounding like “a bomb going off,” shook the community late Tuesday night and left families scrambling for safety.

Emergency dispatchers began receiving 911 calls shortly after 9:15 p.m. reporting a loud boom, flames, and heavy debris. When firefighters and law enforcement arrived on the scene within minutes, they found multiple houses with blown-out windows, collapsed walls, and roofs partially caved in.
Several structures were engulfed in flames, while others bore significant structural damage from the shockwave. According to officials, five individuals sustained injuries ranging from minor cuts and burns to more serious trauma.
Two of the victims were transported to a regional trauma center in critical condition, while three others were treated at local hospitals and later released. Fortunately, no fatalities have been reported so far.
Neighbors described scenes of chaos and confusion in the immediate aftermath of the explosion. “My whole house shook like it was picked up and dropped,” one resident said. “I ran outside and could see fireballs going into the sky. People were screaming, trying to find their kids, their pets—nobody knew what was happening.”
The fire department quickly initiated evacuations across several blocks, moving dozens of families to safety as crews battled the flames and checked for potential secondary explosions. Utility companies were also called in to shut off gas and electricity in the affected area as a precaution.
Investigators have not yet determined the cause of the explosion, but early indications suggest a possible gas-related incident. A team from the state fire marshal’s office, along with federal agents specializing in explosive investigations, has been deployed to examine debris, interview witnesses, and review utility line data.
Officials caution that it may take days or even weeks before a definitive cause is confirmed. At least 20 homes suffered visible damage, ranging from shattered windows and scorched siding to complete structural collapse.
Several families have been displaced and are being assisted by the Red Cross and other local relief organizations. Temporary shelters have been set up at a nearby community center to provide food, clothing, and housing for those forced out of their homes.
Local leaders have pledged support for the affected residents. “This is a heartbreaking event for our community,” the mayor said during a late-night press conference. “We are incredibly grateful that there were no immediate fatalities, and we are committed to helping every family recover and rebuild from this tragedy.”
Residents are being urged to avoid the area while cleanup and investigation efforts continue. Authorities have asked anyone with video footage or firsthand accounts of the explosion to come forward to aid in the investigation.
For now, the once-quiet neighborhood is left reeling from the devastation, with many families unsure when—or if—they will be able to return to their homes.
