A 32-year-old Taco Bell employee, Ryan Johnson, was tragically shot to death early Friday in a parking lot near downtown Cincinnati. Officers responding to reports of gunfire at the restaurant off Gest Street near Freeman Avenue just after midnight found Johnson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say Johnson was not wearing a Taco Bell uniform at the time and was dressed in jeans and a t-shirt. The suspect fled the scene and remains at large, while homicide detectives continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Officials are reviewing surveillance footage to identify the perpetrator.
Police have not released a suspect description, and it remains unclear what led to the fatal attack. No shell casings were recovered at the scene.
This incident adds to ongoing concerns about gun violence in Cincinnati. Earlier this week, a 71-year-old man was shot nearby in the West End, and a chaotic shooting incident near Taft High School earlier this summer underscored rising public safety issues in the city.
