LAKE CITY, S.C. — The Lake City community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 15-year-old Kainon McKissick, who died following a tragic shooting on Monday.
According to Florence County Coroner Keith von Lutken, Kainon, a resident of Lake City, was taken to the hospital after suffering gunshot wounds but sadly did not survive. His death has left family, friends, and classmates devastated as they struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss of such a young life.
Lake City Police Chief Patrick Miles reported that the shooting occurred in the area of the 400 block of Elm Street. The Florence County Sheriff’s Office is assisting Lake City Police in the ongoing investigation. An autopsy is scheduled this week at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to determine the exact cause of death.
Kainon’s death has shaken the close-knit Lake City community, where residents are coming together to offer prayers, support, and condolences to his grieving family. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward as the investigation moves forward.
