LORAIN, Ohio — The Lorain community is mourning the tragic death of 18-year-old Isaac Jason Brocco Rivera, who was shot and killed Saturday evening at Lakeview Park. Rivera, a beloved student at Lorain Success Academy, was on his way to attend Lorain High School’s homecoming celebration when the shooting occurred.
According to a GoFundMe created to support his family, Rivera was remembered as “a cherished son, brother, and friend who brought so much love and light into our lives. He left for his senior homecoming and never made it home.” The fundraiser, which had raised nearly $9,400 by Sunday evening, aims to help the family cover funeral expenses, with a goal of $14,000.
Lorain Schools Superintendent Jeff Graham expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it a “tragic event” and assuring that grief counseling and emotional support would be made available to students and staff. “Hold your loved ones a little closer and a little tighter,” Graham urged in a statement.
Lorain City Councilmember Angel Arroyo also called for unity in the wake of the tragedy, urging the community to “stand united in healing and compassion.”
The Lorain Police Department confirmed that the case is being investigated as a homicide. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Bureau continue to search for answers, though no suspect information has yet been released.
As Lorain mourns, Rivera’s classmates, teachers, and neighbors remember him for his kindness, bright spirit, and dreams for the future — a young life tragically cut short.
