DECATUR, Ill. — The Decatur community is mourning the tragic loss of 17-year-old Tev Ots, who was shot and killed Friday night in a devastating incident that has left family, friends, and neighbors in shock.
On October 24 at 10:10 p.m., Decatur Police responded to reports of shots fired at a business in the 1100 block of E Wood Street. Upon arrival, officers found Tev Ots with at least one apparent gunshot wound. He was transported by ambulance to Decatur Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Patrol officers quickly located the vehicle believed to have been involved in the incident, leading to the detention of a 19-year-old man at a nearby residence. Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division processed evidence, reviewed video surveillance, and interviewed witnesses. Overnight, search warrants were executed at two Decatur residences as part of the ongoing investigation.

As a result, 19-year-old Nehemiah T. Meyers of Decatur was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. He is currently held at the Macon County Jail. While an arrest has been made, authorities stress that the investigation remains active, and detectives continue to follow up on additional leads.
