The Hartwell community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 23-year-old Michael Richard Wilcox, who tragically lost his life in a crash early Tuesday morning, November 11, 2025, in Hart County, Georgia.
According to Georgia State Patrol Sgt. Ray Dean with Post 52 Hartwell, the crash occurred just after 1 a.m. on New Prospect Road near Wyndward Point Drive. Investigators say Michael was driving a blue 2013 Volkswagen GTI northbound when he lost control of the vehicle, veered off the road, and traveled roughly 532 feet through a pasture, striking a fence and then a small tree. The car overturned, and Michael, who was unrestrained, was partially ejected from the vehicle. He tragically died at the scene.
Sgt. Dean stated that driver impairment is suspected, and next of kin have been notified.
