FERGUSON, MO — A horrific and heartbreaking tragedy has shaken the Ferguson community after 39-year-old Brandon R. Johnson was arrested and charged in the fatal shooting of his pregnant girlfriend, 30-year-old Raven Richmond, on June 25, 2025. The case has sent shock and outrage through the region as authorities confirm that Raven was expecting a child at the time of her death.
According to a probable cause statement released by the Ferguson Police Department, Johnson knowingly caused Raven’s death by fatally shooting her in their shared home on Windward Court. He later turned himself in to the St. Louis County Police Department, confessing to the crime and admitting that he had shot Raven the day prior.
Upon receiving the confession, Ferguson officers conducted a welfare check at the residence in the 1700 block of Windward Court, where they tragically found Raven Richmond deceased, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
A Devastating Discovery
Adding to the heartbreak of the situation, family members later informed investigators that Raven was pregnant, having recently shared the news with Johnson. Her joyful expectation of a new life was tragically silenced, and the loss now extends beyond one life — to the unborn child as well.
“This is not just a murder — it’s the destruction of a family, a future, and an innocent life that never had the chance to begin,” said a family friend. “Raven was full of light and hope for the future. This is a senseless tragedy.”
A Chilling Confession
Following his confession, Brandon Johnson admitted to disposing of critical evidence, including the firearm used in the shooting, his cell phone, and a knife. These efforts to cover up the crime have led to multiple charges beyond murder.
The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has filed the following charges against Johnson:
Count 1: Murder in the First Degree – Class A Felony
Count 2: Armed Criminal Action – Class U Felony
Counts 3–5: Tampering with Physical Evidence in Felony Prosecution – Class E Felonies
Johnson remains in custody as the investigation continues. It is unclear whether additional charges related to the death of the unborn child will be pursued.
A Community in Mourning
The news of Raven Richmond’s death has left her family, friends, and the broader community in profound grief. Described as a loving daughter, vibrant friend, and hopeful mother-to-be, Raven’s life was cut short in a moment of unthinkable violence.
“She was excited about becoming a mother,” said one relative. “She deserved to live, to raise her child, to be loved and protected — not taken in this cruel way.”
Vigils are being planned to honor Raven and her unborn child. Grief counselors and domestic violence advocates are urging those in similar situations to seek help and support.
Seeking Justice and Raising Awareness
This tragedy has also renewed calls for stronger domestic violence prevention efforts and mental health resources. Advocates are urging loved ones to speak up when they see signs of abuse and for victims to know that help is available.
“This case is a grim reminder that domestic violence can escalate to fatal levels,” said a spokesperson for a local women’s advocacy group. “Raven’s story must not be forgotten. Her life mattered, and so did her child’s.”
Ongoing Investigation
The Ferguson Police Department continues to investigate the case and is urging the public to come forward with any information. Anyone who may have additional details is asked to contact Ferguson PD at (314) 522-3100 or submit an anonymous tip through CrimeStoppers.
