The Waynesboro community is mourning the tragic loss of Kennarius Roshawn McBride, who died Thursday, November 13, following a shooting at the Sunoco gas station on E. 7th Street. Authorities say the incident began as an altercation inside the convenience store, which escalated into gunfire, leaving McBride fatally injured.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office and Waynesboro Police Department responded to the scene around noon. McBride was transported to Burke Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The sudden and violent nature of his death has left family, friends, and neighbors in deep shock.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage and identified Jalen Floyd Cox as a suspect. Cox later turned himself in to the Burke County Detention Center, though authorities emphasize that the investigation is ongoing.
