A heavy police presence and road closures disrupted traffic Thursday morning after a person was found dead near the Interstate 94 overpass at Moorland Road, according to the City of Brookfield Police Department.
Witnesses reported seeing a body hanging from a tree near the nearby golf course around 7:03 a.m. Emergency crews responded moments later to a DOA call in the area of North Moorland Road, just south of I-94.
Authorities confirmed the individual was already deceased when first responders arrived. The area surrounding the golf course and a nearby hotel was taped off as officers, squad cars, and a coroner’s van gathered at the scene. Southbound Moorland Road was closed, along with the southbound exit ramps from I-94, causing significant delays during the morning commute.
The closure extended from the I-94 southbound exit ramp into the City of Brookfield, reaching as far as the Moorland Road–Greenfield Avenue intersection.
Brookfield Police Chief Chris Garcia said the department is conducting a death investigation and that the circumstances “appear to be a suicide.” No foul play is suspected at this time.
The scene was cleared around 10 a.m., and traffic returned to normal shortly afterward.
No additional details about the individual have been released pending notification of family members. The investigation remains ongoing.
