A quiet Friday morning turned devastating for the Kinsley community when Rebecca Oberly, 44, lost her life in a tragic accident on U.S. Highway 50 in Edwards County.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, Oberly was driving east in her Nissan Pathfinder shortly before 6:30 a.m. when she collided with a deer near 110th Avenue, just east of Kinsley. After the initial crash, Oberly exited the vehicle to inspect it for damage. Unfortunately, the SUV was left in reverse instead of park. In a heartbreaking turn of events, she tripped and was run over by her own vehicle. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene. Her passenger was unharmed in the initial collision.
