It is with deep sorrow that we share the unexpected passing of Kurt, who died early yesterday morning from sudden cardiac death while in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where we were attending Ian’s state baseball tournament.
If you knew Kurt, you loved him. He had a gift for making people laugh in any situation and never hesitated to help anyone, no matter the distance or effort. Despite the ups and downs of life, one thing was always certain—Kurt’s love for his children, friends, and family never wavered.
I am so incredibly proud of how our children are walking through this heartbreaking moment. As a mother, there’s no preparing for the moment you have to share such news with your kids. And yet, they’ve shown remarkable strength, grace, and maturity.
When Ian overheard us discussing whether we should pull out of the tournament, he said, “Mom, I want to play baseball. It’s what Dad would’ve wanted. There’s nothing he loved more than watching us do the things we love.” So we stayed—and Ian played, honoring his father with every pitch and swing. Lennox, too, chose to play her softball game last night for her daddy. Austin is still little, and we’re not sure how she’ll process it all in the days ahead—but together, we will get through it.
These children amaze me every single day. They shouldn’t have to carry the weight they do, but they are warriors. And I am so thankful that I get to be their mother.
To everyone who has called, texted, or reached out—thank you. Your love and support mean everything. And to our baseball family, we are beyond grateful for your kindness and care. We love you all.
