A 16-year-old schoolgirl from Limlair Village, Corentyne, Berbice has died following a tragic accident Friday night along Number 63 Road. Regional Commander Shivpersaud Bacchus confirmed her death, stating she was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty. Several others, including a teacher, remain in critical condition and are receiving emergency medical treatment.
According to reports, the accident occurred around 18:00 hrs as a teacher was driving a minibus home from a sports event in Corriverton. The teacher reportedly swerved to avoid hitting a horse on the roadway, but despite attempts to evade the animal, the vehicle collided with it, causing the minibus to topple.
The children inside the vehicle were quickly rescued and transported to Number 75 Hospital for medical attention. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
