Police in Arlington Heights are investigating a disturbing discovery after two men were found dead Friday afternoon inside the utility room of a suburban multifamily condo complex. Authorities say both victims suffered apparent traumatic injuries, and while many questions remain, investigators believe the incident was isolated and that there is no danger to the public.
The incident unfolded around 4:30 p.m. on Friday, when officers were called to the 1500 block of East Central Road for a report of two unconscious individuals inside a shared utility room. When police and paramedics arrived, they immediately recognized that both men were beyond medical help. Paramedics later confirmed both victims dead at the scene.
According to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, one of the deceased has been identified as 53-year-old Juan Medina. The second man has not yet been publicly identified as officials continue working to contact next of kin.
Authorities revealed that the two men were coworkers, describing one as an employee and the other as his supervisor. Police have not released details regarding their employer or the nature of their work, but noted that both were in the area in a professional capacity.
Investigators found evidence of traumatic injuries, though officials have not disclosed whether the injuries were accidental, intentional, or the result of foul play. Autopsy results and further forensic analysis will provide more clarity in the days ahead.
Arlington Heights police emphasized that early indications point to an isolated incident, and there is no ongoing threat to residents in the condo complex or surrounding neighborhood. Officers spent several hours on scene Friday and into the evening, documenting evidence and interviewing individuals connected to the victims and the property.
As of now, the circumstances leading up to the deaths remain unclear. Police and the Major Case Assistance Team are continuing their investigation, working to piece together the events that occurred inside the utility room prior to the 911 call.
Officials say updates will be released as more information becomes available.
