A violent confrontation between two teenagers in Newport News has led to serious charges after a 13-year-old boy was shot early Monday morning.
According to Newport News police, officers responded just before 1 a.m. to reports of gunfire and a ShotSpotter activation near 19th Street. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found a 13-year-old suffering from a gunshot wound. The teen was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remains in stable condition.
Investigators quickly determined that an altercation between the victim and a 16-year-old suspect escalated into gunfire. Police later located the 16-year-old and took him into custody.
