Nashville, TN – The Nashville community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of LaQuita Shantel Cole, affectionately known as Quita Cole, who passed away on April 25, 2025, at the age of 40. A beloved entrepreneur, chef, and community figure, Quita was the proud owner and heart behind QC Kitchen, a soul food restaurant that quickly became a local favorite after opening its doors in 2022 at 319 Peabody Street.
Born and raised in Nashville, Quita grew up in a single-parent household where she took on a nurturing role early in life. While her mother worked multiple jobs to support the family, Quita often cooked for her younger brothers—an experience that sparked her lifelong love of food and hospitality. Determined to pursue her passion, she enrolled in culinary arts school and graduated in 2016. Over the years, she honed her skills in various kitchens, food trucks, and catering events before launching her own dream: QC Kitchen.
Known for its cook-to-order, deeply flavorful soul food, QC Kitchen quickly earned a loyal following. From crispy fried chicken wings to smoky greens and perfectly golden hot water cornbread, Quita’s dishes were consistently praised on platforms like Yelp for their authenticity and heart.
Behind the scenes, Quita was known for her tireless work ethic—often working seven days a week, driven by a desire to provide for her family and build a legacy. In the weeks leading up to her passing, some close to her recalled her expressing fatigue, reportedly saying, “Quita needs rest.” She passed away peacefully in her sleep after laying down for a nap.
While some online sources have linked her passing to overwork and burnout—citing it as a tragic consequence of modern hustle culture—no official cause of death has been confirmed, and such claims remain speculative at this time. Nonetheless, her story has sparked meaningful conversations about self-care, rest, and the cost of chasing dreams without pause.
Quita Cole’s life was a testament to resilience, passion, and love—values she poured into every plate she served and every person she met. She leaves behind a legacy of flavor, family, and fierce determination that will not be forgotten.
The Nashville community remembers her not just as a chef, but as a daughter, sister, mentor, and dreamer who gave her all to her craft and community.
May LaQuita “Quita” Cole rest in peace—and may her memory continue to inspire.
