Chicago Police are investigating a violent shooting on the city’s West Side that left two women fighting for their lives late Monday night.
According to authorities, the shooting occurred around 9:14 p.m., when officers responded to reports of two people shot. Police say the victims drove themselves to the intersection of Central Avenue and Gladys Avenue, where responding officers discovered both women suffering from severe gunshot wounds.
A 49-year-old woman was found with gunshot wounds to the face and chest. She was rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where she remains in critical condition.
A 38-year-old woman was also discovered with multiple gunshot wounds to her body. She, too, was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition.
Investigators say the women were standing outside when an SUV pulled up, and someone inside opened fire before speeding off. Police believe the attack was targeted but have not yet identified a motive.
No suspects are currently in custody as Area 4 Detectives continue to investigate the incident, review surveillance footage, and speak with witnesses.
The shooting has sparked renewed concern among West Side residents, who say gun violence continues to plague their neighborhoods despite ongoing police efforts.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect vehicle to come forward.
