SANTA CLARA, California — Law enforcement and emergency medical personnel responded to Westfield Valley Fair Mall late Friday after multiple 911 callers reported an active shooting amid heavy Black Friday crowds.
According to initial emergency radio traffic, responders were advised that at least two individuals had been shot, and a visible trail of blood near the Macy’s entrance was reported by witnesses.
Multiple EMS units were staged outside the mall as officers worked to secure the scene and assess the number and condition of victims.
Video shared by witnesses shows chaotic moments as shoppers fled the building or sheltered inside stores, many unaware of the circumstances but reacting to the panic spreading throughout the mall.
Santa Clara Police confirmed that an active investigation is underway.
Officers began clearing the premises shortly after arrival and continued to search for potential threats as well as gather statements from witnesses.
