An ongoing active-shooter incident prompted a large-scale emergency response Friday night at the Westfield Valley Fair Mall, located at 2855 Stevens Creek Boulevard, on the San Jose–Santa Clara border.

Authorities say at least two dozen law enforcement units from multiple agencies rushed to the scene after reports of gunfire inside the mall. Dispatchers began receiving emergency calls shortly after nightfall, with callers reporting chaos as shoppers fled from the building.
According to preliminary information from law enforcement, multiple shots were reportedly fired inside the mall, triggering an immediate lockdown while officers began clearing stores and escorting people to safety. Witnesses said crowds ran toward exits as alarms sounded and police entered the building with weapons drawn.
Ambulances and fire personnel staged outside the mall as officers worked to secure the scene. As of this publication, the number of injuries has not yet been confirmed, and authorities have not released details regarding a suspect or motive.
Police are urging members of the public to avoid the area while the situation remains active.
