The person who tragically lost their life in Friday morning’s two-vehicle crash on State Highway 2 near Matamau has been identified as Toby Broomhall, a respected Construction Projects NZ Division Manager and valued member of the Taranaki community.
The crash, involving a truck and a car, was reported shortly before 9:50 a.m. near Okane Road at Matamau, between Dannevirke and Norsewood. Emergency services responded immediately, with Fire and Emergency NZ, Hato Hone St John, and police all attending the scene.
Despite efforts to save him, Broomhall died at the site of the crash.
Second Person Seriously Injured
Police confirmed a second individual suffered serious injuries. That person was treated by paramedics before being airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital. Additional emergency crews en route were later stood down as the situation became contained.
