The death toll from a mass shooting in Saulsville, west of Pretoria, has risen to 12 after another victim died from injuries sustained during the attack.
Police reported that the shooting occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning at an illegal shebeen operating inside a hostel. Three armed suspects entered the premises and opened fire on patrons, injuring 25 people in total. Among the deceased are three minors, aged 3, 12, and 16, while the shebeen’s owner is also listed among the wounded.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for the three suspects. Police say the motive for the attack is still under investigation, and officers continue to interview witnesses and collect evidence from the scene.
The incident has been condemned by officials and is being described as one of the deadliest mass shootings in Gauteng this year.
