Police are investigating a stabbing that occurred Monday morning near the Safeway on 1st Street, leaving a 52-year-old man with a neck puncture wound following an altercation with a transient individual.
Emergency crews responded to the store after receiving reports of a disturbance involving two men. When they arrived, officers found the victim conscious and breathing, with a non-life-threatening wound to his neck. He was treated at the scene and later transported for further medical evaluation.
According to authorities, the confrontation began as an argument between the two individuals before escalating. The suspect fled the area before police and medical responders arrived and has not yet been located.
Gilroy Police have established a case and are working to identify and find the suspect. They are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to contact the department.
