The Pomeroy Fire Department is mourning the untimely and unexpected passing of Senior Firefighter Brentten Young, Unit 26, whose dedication, leadership, and service left a lasting impact on the department and the community he faithfully served.
Brentten joined the Pomeroy Fire Department as a junior firefighter on October 4, 2015, and from that day forward committed himself wholeheartedly to protecting and serving others. Over the years, he became an active and dependable member of the department, contributing countless hours of professional service and earning the respect of his fellow firefighters. Through hard work, determination, and a deep understanding of the department, Brentten rose through the ranks and became one of the most trusted and capable firefighters at Station 1.
In recognition of his dedication, integrity, and leadership, Brentten was elected by his peers to serve as a lieutenant during the 2024–2025 election cycle. Even as the department later scaled back its number of officers, he continued to serve selflessly, never wavering in his commitment to duty. His pride in the fire service, unwavering professionalism, and genuine care for those in need defined who he was as a firefighter and as a person.
As the department grieves this tremendous loss, members remember Brentten for his courage, passion, and the high standards he set for service. His example will continue to guide the department as they answer future calls, carrying forward the values he lived by.
The Pomeroy Fire Department extends its deepest condolences to Brentten’s parents, siblings, family, and friends, all of whom loved him dearly. The department is also grateful for the outpouring of support and kind words received from fire departments and individuals near and far during this difficult time.
Funeral arrangements will be announced at the convenience of the family.
