Police are investigating a fatal shooting that claimed the life of an 11-year-old boy inside a Chipotle restaurant near Temple University on Monday afternoon. A manhunt is underway as authorities search for the suspect.
According to police, the shooting occurred inside the Chipotle located at 11th Street and Montgomery Avenue, an area heavily traveled by students and residents in the Temple University neighborhood. Officers responded to reports of a shooting and found the child suffering from a gunshot wound.
The boy was pronounced dead at 5:24 p.m., police said.
Investigators said the suspect fled the scene and remains on the run. The shooter is described as a Black male, approximately 6 feet tall, last seen wearing a black North Face jacket over a navy blue hoodie, black pants, and black shoes. Police said he was carrying a gray backpack and was armed with a firearm.
The shooting prompted a heavy police response in the area as officers canvassed nearby streets and reviewed surveillance footage. Authorities have not released information about what led up to the shooting or whether the child was the intended target.
