The Bismarck community is grieving the heartbreaking and sudden loss of Madison “Madi” Stumbo, who tragically passed away on July 1, 2025, in a devastating accident.
At only 29 years old, Madi’s life was tragically cut short, leaving behind a profound void in the hearts of her loved ones, friends, coworkers, and everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Born and raised in Hitterdal, Minnesota, Madi was a small-town girl with a big heart and an even bigger smile. She graduated from Ulen-Hitterdal High School, where she was known for her caring nature, friendly personality, and enthusiastic school spirit.
From an early age, Madi embraced life with open arms, exuding positivity, compassion, and a sense of adventure that followed her into adulthood. After high school, Madi relocated to Bismarck, North Dakota, where she quickly made a name for herself through her hard work and dedication.
She worked as an Assistant Store Leader at Scheels, where her leadership, warmth, and professionalism made her a standout figure among staff and customers alike.
Her colleagues describe her as someone who not only got the job done but uplifted everyone around her in the process. She led with kindness, encouraged her team, and was always ready with a bright smile and a helping hand.
Madi’s life was full of love and promise. She was engaged to Jason Kemmis, with whom she shared a deep bond and a future filled with hopes and dreams. The couple was building a life together rooted in mutual respect, love, and shared joy.
Madi spoke often of the adventures she and Jason had planned, and she approached their future with boundless enthusiasm. Beyond her professional and personal accomplishments, Madi had a passion for the outdoors and cherished the simple things in life—bonfires with friends, family dinners, hiking trips, and quiet mornings with coffee.
Her laughter was contagious, her energy uplifting, and her ability to make others feel valued was truly remarkable. She had a unique gift for connecting with people, always remembering birthdays, celebrating the wins of others, and offering a listening ear in tough times.
The loss of such a vibrant young woman has sent ripples of sorrow throughout Bismarck and beyond. Friends, family members, coworkers, and former classmates have all shared heartfelt memories, testifying to the incredible impact Madi had on those around her. Her legacy is one of generosity, warmth, resilience, and the kind of love that makes life brighter.
To honor and celebrate Madi’s beautiful life, a funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, July 11, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, located at 106 Osage Avenue, Bismarck. Visitation will take place the day prior, on Thursday, July 10, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Parkway Funeral Service, 2330 Tyler Parkway, Bismarck, with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM.
