ALBANY, N.Y. — The city of Albany is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 25-year-old Cepelynn Johnson, who was tragically killed in a devastating crash on I-787 early Sunday morning.
Authorities say the single-car accident happened around 7 a.m. near Exit 5. Cepelynn and her close friend, 27-year-old Jamilla Tirado, were passengers in a vehicle that veered off the road and went down an embankment. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
Cepelynn, known for her warm heart, bright smile, and love for family, leaves behind a community shaken by her sudden passing. Friends describe her as someone who could light up any room, a loyal friend, and a source of strength for those around her.
The driver, 25-year-old Imahjai Sutherland, also of Albany, was seriously injured and has been charged in connection with the crash, including counts of manslaughter and aggravated vehicular homicide.
As Albany grieves, loved ones are gathering to remember Cepelynn for the joy she brought to others and the lasting impact she made in her short life. Candlelight vigils and memorial tributes are being planned in her honor.
