Police in Arvada are responding to an active shooter situation that unfolded Saturday evening near the new apartments behind Smashburger, off Wadsworth Boulevard.
According to witnesses, multiple police units flooded the area shortly after 6:00 p.m., with officers seen carrying rifles and taking cover around the complex. One witness reported seeing a person being placed on a stretcher with blood running down their arm as emergency medical crews rushed to the scene.
The Arvada Police Department confirmed that one person has been critically injured in the shooting and transported to a nearby hospital.
As a precaution, residents of the Russell Apartments were issued a shelter-in-place order while police searched the area for any potential suspects. Officers have since closed Berry Street north to Olde Town Arvada, and traffic in the surrounding area is being redirected.
Authorities have not yet confirmed whether the shooter has been apprehended or if there is any continued threat to the public.
“Please avoid the area and follow official alerts,” Arvada Police said in a brief statement on social media, emphasizing that the investigation is ongoing.
Heavily armed officers remain on scene as the area is being cleared and processed for evidence.
Residents are urged to stay indoors until police provide an official all-clear.
This is a developing story, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available from law enforcement.
