Authorities are investigating a shooting incident that occurred Friday evening in the area of 15 Simon Street in Beverly.
According to Beverly Police, officers responded to reports of shots fired shortly before 7:00 p.m. Upon arrival, they located a victim suffering from gunshot wounds. Emergency responders immediately rendered aid while securing the scene.
Due to the severity of the injuries, a MedFlight helicopter was requested, with a landing zone established at Beverly Hospital to transport the victim to a Boston-area trauma center.
Police confirmed that a firearm was recovered at the scene and that a suspect is now in custody. Officials have not yet released the identities of the suspect or victim, pending notification of family members.
The area around Simon Street remained blocked off for several hours Friday night as detectives collected evidence and canvassed the neighborhood for witnesses and surveillance footage.
Authorities say there is no ongoing threat to the public, as the incident appears to be isolated.
