Commuters across the Blue Mountains are facing major delays this morning after a car crashed off a bridge at Blaxland and landed upside down on the railway tracks, killing one person and causing significant disruptions to road and rail services.
Train Services Suspended
Trains are not running between Springwood and Penrith on the Blue Mountains Line, with NSW TrainLink confirming the suspension is due to a vehicle blocking the tracks at Blaxland. Rail crews and emergency services are currently at the site, and passengers are being urged to delay travel or allow extra time for their journeys.
Crash on Great Western Highway
The incident occurred near St Johns Road on the Great Western Highway at around 5:53 a.m. One of the two westbound lanes—lane 1—has been closed as emergency crews respond.
According to authorities, the vehicle left the roadway, plunged from the bridge, and came to rest on its roof on the tracks below. Police have confirmed that one person has died as a result of the crash.
Heavy Congestion Expected
The lane closure and suspension of rail services have created widespread delays for morning commuters. Drivers are being warned to expect slow conditions and potential bottlenecks as traffic builds throughout the corridor.
Investigation Underway
Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the car leaving the bridge. Recovery crews are working to remove the vehicle and assess any damage to the rail line before train services can safely resume.
Further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
