RALEIGH, N.C. — The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the man who was shot while driving on U.S. Highway 64 last week has died as a result of his injuries.
The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Derick Godwin.
According to investigators, Godwin sustained a gunshot wound to the head while traveling along the highway and was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to those injuries.
Authorities stated that a suspect has been identified in connection with the shooting, and there is no active search at this time.
The name of the suspected shooter has not yet been released, pending further investigative steps.
Following the incident, U.S.-64 was temporarily shut down for several hours while deputies and crime scene personnel processed evidence and conducted interviews.
The Wake County Sheriff’s Office emphasized that there is no known threat to the public, and the incident appears to be isolated.
