The Polk County Sheriff’s Office (PCSO) Traffic Homicide Unit is investigating a tragic all-terrain vehicle (ATV) crash that claimed the life of Travis Sneden, 32, of Fort McCoy, Florida, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at Rancho Bonito ATV Park in Lakeland.
The fatal incident occurred at approximately 3:00 p.m., sending shockwaves through the local off-road community and leaving family and friends mourning a sudden and devastating loss.
According to preliminary information released by authorities, Sneden was operating a 2018 green Kawasaki ATV roughly 1.3 miles south of the park’s main entrance when the crash occurred. Investigators report that Sneden attempted to descend a steep cut featuring an estimated 24- to 30-inch vertical drop.
As the ATV moved forward, the front wheels descended first, while the rear wheels remained on higher ground, creating an unstable angle. This imbalance caused the vehicle to flip over, landing upside down and trapping the driver beneath it.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident was reported. Despite their efforts, Sneden sustained fatal head injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities confirmed that he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. No other vehicles or individuals were involved, and the incident appears to have been a single-vehicle accident.
The PCSO Traffic Homicide Unit is continuing its investigation to document the circumstances surrounding the crash, including terrain conditions, ATV positioning, and rider safety factors.
