A married couple in North Texas were found dead Sunday evening in what police are investigating as a murder-suicide, according to the Grand Prairie Police Department.
Officers were called to a residence in the 400 block of East Tarrant Road around 6:30 p.m. after a concerned family member requested a welfare check. The relative told authorities they had been unable to reach the couple for an extended period of time.
When officers entered the home, they discovered a woman who had suffered a fatal gunshot wound. A man was also found with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Grand Prairie medics pronounced both individuals dead at the scene.
In a statement, the department said investigators are treating the case as a family violence-related murder-suicide.
The identities of the couple have not yet been released. The Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office will confirm the victims’ names once next-of-kin notifications are complete.
Police have not indicated that there is any threat to the public.
This incident marks yet another case of domestic violence that has ended in tragedy in North Texas. Authorities continue to urge community members to reach out for support if they or someone they know may be in an unsafe situation.
