GREENSBORO, NC (December 11, 2025) — Greensboro Police have arrested a 26-year-old man in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred late Wednesday night, marking the city’s 40th homicide of the year.
Officers responded to the 2400 block of South Holden Road at approximately 11:10 p.m. on December 10, after receiving reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found 31-year-old Travis Thompson suffering from at least one gunshot wound.
Guilford County EMS personnel and officers attempted immediate life-saving measures, but Thompson was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been notified.
Police detained Corey Thomas Powell, 26, at the location of the incident. He has been charged with first-degree murder and is currently being held at the Guilford County Jail with no bond. His arrest warrant is publicly available through Guilford County eCourts.
Investigators say they are not searching for additional suspects, and the motive behind the shooting has not yet been released. The investigation remains ongoing.
