At approximately 7:30 a.m., two drivers became engaged in a confrontation on the westbound 215 freeway. According to police, tensions escalated rapidly between the drivers of the two vehicles, one of whom was a 22-year-old male. During the altercation, the suspect fired a single shot from a handgun into the other car.
Inside the targeted vehicle were the victim’s stepfather and the 11-year-old boy, who was seated in the back seat on his way to school. The bullet struck the child, causing critical injuries. In a desperate response, the stepfather rammed the suspect’s vehicle, forcibly bringing both cars to a stop on the roadway.
Emergency responders transported the injured child to a nearby hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts, he did not survive.
A Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department officer who happened to be driving by the scene responded immediately. The officer detained the 22-year-old suspect, who was later booked into the Henderson Detention Center.
