SAN ANTONIO, Texas — A community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of 4-year-old Josiah Cabral, a little boy whose life was taken far too soon after a tragic shooting inside a Northwest Side home. Authorities have now confirmed Josiah’s identity as they continue working tirelessly to uncover the circumstances that led to his death.
The tragedy unfolded Monday afternoon just after 3 p.m. in the 10000 block of Windstone Creek, near Bandera and Loop 1604. San Antonio Police Chief William McManus shared that officers were dispatched after receiving two separate 911 calls — one made from inside the home and another from outside — both reporting that a gunshot had been fired.
When officers arrived, they discovered a scene no parent should ever have to endure. Josiah’s father was already on the floor, desperately performing first aid on his son in a selfless attempt to save his life. Only Josiah and his parents were inside the home at the time of the shooting. Despite rapid emergency response and immediate medical care, Josiah was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Chief McManus stated that a handgun was involved, though how the shooting occurred remains unclear. Both Josiah’s father, in his 50s, and his mother, in her 40s, were detained at the scene as part of standard investigative procedure. Officers have questioned both parents as they work to determine exactly what transpired in the moments leading up to the gunshot.
Residents of the neighborhood describe the tragedy as deeply unsettling. Neighbor Adriana Almarac called the situation “nerve-wracking,” while another neighbor, Victoria Downing, expressed the anguish so many are feeling: “It’s so awful and sad. I just hope police get down to the bottom of what happened to this 4-year-old.”
Investigators continue to piece together every detail, and police have not released additional information as of yet. The investigation remains active and ongoing.
But beyond the facts, the community is holding close the memory of a little boy whose presence, though brief, touched the lives around him. Josiah Cabral was only four — a tender age filled with curiosity, innocence, and the joy of discovering the world. His passing leaves a weight that is felt not just by his family, but by all who hear of this profound loss.
As authorities seek answers, friends, neighbors, and strangers alike offer their prayers and condolences. May the truth come to light, and may healing — however long it takes — find its way to those left grieving.
May sweet Josiah rest in peace.
A life so small, yet a loss so immeasurable.
