With heavy hearts, the community of Heidelberg, Mississippi, mourns the heartbreaking loss of 5-year-old Legaci Deshawn, who was tragically killed during a shooting at the Heidelberg High School homecoming football game on Friday night, October 10, 2025.
What was meant to be a joyful evening of celebration turned into a night of sorrow when gunfire erupted on the school grounds, claiming the lives of two people, including young Legaci, and leaving another injured. Authorities say the incident occurred near the bleachers and baseball field during the game, sending families and students running for safety.
Legaci was a bright, loving, and playful child whose laughter brought warmth and happiness to everyone she met. Her boundless energy, gentle heart, and radiant smile left a lasting mark on her family, friends, and community.
As the town of Heidelberg grieves this devastating loss, vigils and memorials are being organized to honor her memory and stand with her family. Though her life was cut tragically short, Legaci Deshawn’s spirit will forever shine in the hearts of those who loved her.
