Dawud Burritt, 28, was arrested Sunday morning for allegedly shooting two people at a fast food restaurant on Blanding Boulevard the night before. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is being charged with murder following a deadly shooting Saturday night at a Burger King.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says Dawud Burritt, 28, is responsible for a shooting at the Blanding Boulevard location near Collins Road.
Around 8:40 P.M. Saturday night, officers arrived to find two men with injuries. Despite medical care, 18-year-old victim Matthew Jackson died. The other victim was taken to a hospital and expected to survive, JSO says.
After reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses, JSO says investigators quickly identified Burritt as the shooter and arrested him Sunday morning.
“We offer our condolences to Jackson’s loved ones and wish a speedy recovery for the other victim in this act of violence,” wrote JSO on social media.
First Coast News is working to confirm what led up to the shooting.
According to jail records, Burritt is charged with second-degree murder, attempted murder, and armed burglary.
His next court date is currently scheduled for Dec. 16.
A violent night
The shooting was one of two that JSO responded to in less than 10 hours this weekend.
On Sunday morning, shortly after 5 a.m., another shooting was reported in the 600 block of Cesery Boulevard, near the intersection with University Boulevard. According to JSO, a man in his early 20s was found with a gunshot wound to his calf.
The victim is believed to have first gotten into a confrontation on Mill Creek Road before leaving the area with three other people in his car. While driving on Cesery Boulevard, JSO says the car was hit by gunfire coming from two other vehicles.

“The victim and witnesses were not able to provide a good description for the suspect vehicles and unable to provide any suspect information,” JSO Sgt. Johnson wrote in a briefing on the incident.
