Gun Discovered After High School Basketball Game
The first incident took place Saturday night following a basketball game between Hamilton Southeastern High School and Pike High School. According to officials, a physical altercation broke out among spectators, during which one of the individuals involved was reportedly armed.
An off-duty Hamilton County Sheriff’s deputy located the teen involved off school grounds and made an arrest shortly afterward. Both school districts later confirmed that the individual taken into custody is not a student at either school.
Deadly Shooting at Britton Tavern
The second and more serious incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. Monday at Britton Tavern, a popular gathering spot in Fishers. Police responded to reports of a shooting and rendered aid, but the victim—identified by friends as 30-year-old Justin Burton—tragically did not survive.
Authorities arrested a 31-year-old Indianapolis man who now faces murder charges. Loved ones describe Burton as a kind, uplifting presence with “a warming smile that lit up every room.”
Witnesses who were inside the tavern during the shooting say they are still processing the traumatic scene.
Another Firearm Incident at Fishers High School
In a separate event on Monday, a Fishers High School student was charged after a firearm was reportedly found inside the student’s vehicle on school property. School officials and police emphasized that the gun was not brought into the building.
Community Leaders Respond
Local security experts say the weekend’s events highlight how unpredictable gun violence can be.
“Violence doesn’t have an address,” said Donald Lines of Elite Protection Services. He stressed the importance of strong safety protocols and vigilant staff in public establishments. “It comes down to clear rules, consistent enforcement, and awareness.”
Lines added that community alertness remains critical: “It sounds cliché, but the ‘see something, say something’ principle absolutely matters.”
