It is with profound sadness that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of Henry Shore, a first-year student at LeTourneau University and a standout member of the men’s soccer team. Henry, a Construction Management major, passed away over the weekend, leaving his family, friends, teammates, and the broader community in deep grief. Our thoughts, prayers, and condolences go out to all who loved him during this incredibly difficult time.
Born and raised in Longview, Texas, Henry was a vibrant and talented young man whose dedication and passion left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him. A rising star in collegiate soccer, he earned All-SCAC First Team honors and All-Freshman accolades, ranking third in the SCAC with eight goals and fourth with 18 total points. In conference play alone, he tallied seven goals and 16 points, earning SCAC Offensive Player of the Week recognition on October 13 after recording four goals the previous week. Henry’s remarkable streak included recording at least one point in five consecutive SCAC matches, and he achieved LeTourneau’s first hat trick since 2019 during a 3-1 win over St. Thomas. His eight goals were the most by a first-year YellowJacket since 2005.
Henry’s talent on the field was matched by his character off it. He was known for his humility, work ethic, and kindness, making him a cherished teammate, friend, and student. His passion for soccer, combined with his dedication to his studies and community, reflected a young man whose impact extended far beyond athletics.
LeTourneau University will hold a service on campus through the Division of Student Affairs and the Office of Spiritual Life to allow the community to pray, commemorate, and honor Henry’s life together. The university also encourages anyone impacted by Henry’s passing to access support through the LeTourneau University Center for Counseling and other resources available to students.
Henry Shore’s life, though tragically brief, was full of achievement, passion, and promise. He will be remembered as a gifted athlete, devoted student, and bright light in the lives of those around him. His legacy of dedication, excellence, and integrity will continue to inspire his teammates, peers, and all members of the LeTourneau family.
