A man has died after a shooting Thursday evening at Greenbriar Mall, prompting a large police response and an ongoing investigation by the Atlanta Police Department.
Officers were called to the southwest Atlanta shopping center, located near Interstate 285, after reports of gunfire. When police arrived, they discovered a man suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency crews quickly transported him to a nearby hospital in critical condition, but authorities confirm he later died from his injuries.
The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
It remains unclear whether the gunfire occurred inside the mall or outside in the parking lot. However, investigators have been focusing much of their attention around the mall’s food court area, where crime scene tape and police units were seen surrounding the entrance.
Channel 2’s NewsChopper 2 captured aerial footage of the heavy police presence, and reporter Michael Doudna is on the ground gathering updates. Additional details are expected to be released during Channel 2 Action News at 5 p.m.
At this time, police have not shared any information regarding potential suspects or a possible motive, and no arrests have been announced. Investigators are urging anyone with information to come forward as they work to piece together what led to the deadly shooting.
