Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to Clwyd Avenue at around 2:15 p.m. after receiving reports of a stabbing near Alexandra Park and close to Stockport County’s Edgeley Park stadium.
Emergency services, including paramedics and an air ambulance, rushed to the scene. The air ambulance was seen landing in Alexandra Park as police placed a cordon around the area to secure evidence and manage crowds in the busy community space.
A witness described seeing a man “running out of the park with a load of blood down him” around the time of the incident, prompting widespread concern among residents.
According to GMP, a man in his 40s was taken to hospital for treatment. Police confirmed his injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.
Officers arrested one male in connection with the stabbing. The suspect is currently in custody as GMP detectives continue their investigation.
“A male has been arrested and enquiries are ongoing,” a police spokesperson said Friday morning.
A heightened police presence is expected in the Edgeley area as officers gather information and reassure the public.
Anyone with information is urged to contact Greater Manchester Police or share details anonymously via Crimestoppers.
