MUNCIE, Ind. — The Muncie community is mourning the tragic loss of 28-year-old Marcus Brown Jr., who was fatally shot on December 27, 2025, at a residence on the 1100 block of E. 23rd Street.
According to the Muncie Police Department, Brown was discovered suffering from apparent gunshot wounds and was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Authorities say the investigation indicates Brown forced his way into the home while armed, and the resident, 33-year-old Daniel Songer, fired in self-defense. Songer has been arrested on charges of felony obstruction of justice and felony unlawful carrying of a handgun.
Friends, family, and neighbors remember Brown as a young man whose life was tragically cut short. Many expressed shock and sadness at the news, reflecting on the impact of his sudden passing on the community.
“This is heartbreaking for all of us,” a neighbor said. “Marcus was known to so many in the neighborhood, and his loss is deeply felt.”
