The community is mourning the tragic loss of 19-year-old Mason TerBurgh of Clio, who died in a construction accident on Tuesday afternoon, November 11, 2025. Authorities say Mason was operating a mini excavator at a worksite along the 12000 block of Wilson Road when the machine slid down a sloped, wet, and icy surface, tipping over and tragically crushing him. Emergency responders pronounced Mason dead at the scene.

The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) and Montrose Township Police are investigating the incident. Officials have not released the name of the company involved as the investigation continues. Mason’s death marks the 39th workplace fatality in Michigan this year, a sobering reminder of the dangers that workers face every day.
Born January 16, 2006, in Grand Blanc, Michigan, Mason was a proud and talented fiber optics technician at Do It Rite Cable Inc. Known for his dedication, skill, and infectious enthusiasm, Mason approached every day with energy and a love for life. He embraced the outdoors wholeheartedly, whether fishing with his best friend Hunter, dirt biking, camping under the stars, hunting, or sharing laughter around bonfires with friends. He also loved cooking and playful moments with his siblings, creating treasured memories that will remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Mason was a beloved son, grandson, nephew, brother, and friend. He is survived by his parents, Brian (Tamara) TerBurgh and Brandi Taylor (Micheal Lasley); siblings Mckenna (Jake) Strand, Jacob (Chloe) TerBurgh, Jackson Stevens, Wyatt Taylor, Coralin May, and Gauge Stinnett; niece and nephew Oakleigh TerBurgh and Huckson Strand; grandparents Jacob (Brenda) TerBurgh and Frank (Denise) Stevens; great-grandparents Mike (Diane) Reynolds, Jane Barrett, and Julie Stevens; extended family, close friends, and his girlfriend, Maddie Hardacre. He was preceded in death by several relatives, including great-grandfathers, a grandfather, an uncle, and an aunt.
Mason’s life will be honored with two funeral services on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at O’Guinn Family Funeral Home in Clio: the first at 1:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Wesley Hunter, and the second at 5:00 p.m., officiated by Pastor Bill Christensen. Family will receive visitors prior to each service.
Though Mason’s life was tragically cut short, the warmth, joy, and passion he brought to his family, friends, and community will not be forgotten. His memory stands as a poignant reminder of the fleeting, precious nature of life and the lasting impact one young soul can have on the world around him.
