The Mount Pleasant community is grieving the loss of Ava Claire Hageman, 13, who died over the weekend. Authorities have confirmed that her passing was the result of suicide, prompting an outpouring of sorrow and support from classmates, educators, and neighbors.
Ava Claire was the daughter of Jennifer Hageman and the beloved sister of Holland. She was a student connected with both Chapel Hill Junior High School (CHJH) and the Mount Pleasant Junior High School community, where she was known for her bright spirit and the friendships she built.
Her death has deeply affected students, families, and school staff, who remember Ava Claire for the joy she brought to those around her.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 11th, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant.
In honor of Ava Claire’s memory, the family has requested donations instead of flowers. Funds will support efforts to renew Dellwood Park and build a community pool — a place meant to reflect joy, connection, and togetherness in Ava’s memory. Donations may be made through Pilgrim’s Bank by contacting Tisha at 903-434-2012, requesting Jason Snodgrass, or speaking with any bank teller.
The Hageman family expressed gratitude for the compassion and support shown by the community during an unimaginably difficult time.
